Health nuts rejoice! Québec City’s healthy food scene is (finally) taking off and catching up to cities like Montréal and Toronto. Vegan/Vegetarian/Gluten-free cafés and restaurants are making a place for themselves outside the old city walls, and we couldn’t be happier. The newest addition, Blender bar à jus, is the second healthy restaurant to open in Saint-Jean-Baptiste in the last month (les Gourmandises Louca opened about a month ago).
Crisp white walls and a white subway tile bar back; birch shelves with pineapples and black wire baskets filled with avocado, oranges and other fruit; an exposed brick wall with a high-back birch bench lined with cushions; large square windows that open fully on warm summer days. The ambience at Blender bar à jus is fresh and inviting. A place where one can relax and enjoy a healthy and delicious juice, smoothie bowl, snack or all three.
Opened by Sébastien Dumas, an avid traveller and lover of juice and smoothie bars, Blender bar à jus features a menu of smoothies, smoothie bowls and signature juices that are focused on detoxification and energy. The juice bar will also offer healthy snacks made by MIÜM, a catering company based in Québec City.
Supporting Local Business
One of the reasons why we started Urban Guide Québec was to support local businesses in Québec City. We love the locals, and we want you to love them too! We also love the way locals support each other, as well as small businesses located throughout the province of Québec.
At Blender bar à jus, Dumas, like many restaurant and café owners in Québec, supports local producers. The most notable (in our humble opinion) being Les Délices de Jérémy.
A company based in Gaspesie, Les Délices de Jérémy is a social enterprise that employs disabled adults. They create raw food products like brownies (OMG!), avocado and lemon tarts (absolutely amazing!), and energy bars. Most of the products are gluten-free, lactose-free and sugar-free. And incredibly delicious.
We love that Dumas will be selling Les Délices de Jérémy products ar Blender bar à jus.
On the Menu
Most snacks are vegetarian, with some vegan and gluten-free options available as well.
Smoothies start at $5.50 for 10 oz, which is around the same price as a fancy coffee or a large chocolat chaud. Obviously, the smoothie is a healthier choice and just as yummy. Menthe Religieuse (mango, spinach, mint and coconut water) is our recommendation!
Grab a smoothie or juice to go, or stay in and enjoy. Blender bar à jus also features shots of ginger or wheat germ, as well as snacks like sandwiches and salads. And, of course, there is avocado toast for those hipsters who cannot live without it.
