A popular restaurant with both locals and visitors, Le Chic Shack serves some of the best gourmet poutines and burgers in Quebec City. It sounds like hyperbole, but it is true.
Located under Musée du Fort, and across from Chateau Frontenac, Le Chich Shack features an open kitchen, grey wood floors, communal tables, plenty of window seating and a small patio in summer.
While traditional poutine (fries, gravy and squeaky cheese curds) is on the menu, Le Chich Shack is best known for its gourmet poutine: La Braisée (beef braised with red beer, horseradish aioli, parmesan, fresh herbs and pickled onions), or La Forestière (wild mushroom ragout, parmesan, fresh herbs and shallots). A different kind of fries (chunks or fried potato instead of skinny fries) give the poutine an added substance, making it quite filling on its own.
The burger menu changes with the seasons, with a couple favourites like Le Chic (cheese, maple-smoked bacon, and homemade pickles) and Le Shack (a burger topped with beef braised in red beer and gruyere cheese). In summer, however, they add their Le Du Fort (a burger topped with smoked meat, gruyere cheese and horseradish aioli). And, of course, their delightful Le Homard (Lobster) burger which is overflowing with thick chunks of Quebec lobster. Yum!
If you’re looking for a lighter meal, try a salad or a bowl or truffle fries or a boozy milkshake.
